Before I sat next to Haven Shockley, I didn’t know her at
all. I knew that she was weird and shy and that was about it. Perhaps due to my
utter lack of social skills, the concrete column and I exchanged almost as much
conversation as did Haven and I. I even got so close as to lean up against it
for support—the column, that is—but I digress.
Over the past few months, I have developed admiration for
Haven because she is passionate—about anime, about creative writing, about
countless other things I don’t know about. This makes her different: she geeks
out because she likes something, not because it’s cool.
In five years, I bet Haven has a job as an illustrator for
an anime television series or comic book. Maybe she helps with the plot
development, too, because she’s bold and creative and bound for success.
This assignment has really made me think because there’s so
much I don’t know. Oh, and Haven’s color is octarine—the eight color of the
spectrum and the color of magic—to borrow from author Terry Pratchett.
