September 30th, 1938---
On this day in history, Britain and France gave into Nazi
Germany over the Sudetenland. The fact that they gave in told Hitler that he
could take over Europe without terribly much interference from either of them,
which ended up being how it happened. Ironically, the meeting to avert war was
arranged by none other than the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. As if that
wasn't strange enough, Czechoslovakia wasn't even
invited to the conference deciding its own borders.
