Once upon a time, which actually
wasn’t terribly long ago, we had to do these massive projects for our social
studies class. By massive I mean assigned in September and due in late January
or early February. Lots and lots of work for a 7th or 8th
grader. Both years, I worked with the same person, (Andrew Tapia, as many of
you may recall) and did the same project type (Documentary). In 7th
grade, our project was on the Space Race, when the US and the USSR were trying
to out-do the other in extra-planetary stuff. That year, we swept regionals and
state, with two First places. In 8th grade, our project was on the
failed negotiations that led directly to the Pearl Harbor attacks. That year,
we were a bit cocky, and didn’t sweep the awards like we had before. We got 1st
at regionals, and 2nd at state. Both years, we were within the top
32 in the nation, in 7th grade, we got 32nd place, and 8th
grade we got 17th place.
I
don’t mean for any of this to seem like I’m bragging, because I’m not.
