This Day In History

On October 1st, 1971, Walt Disney World is opened for the first time. This opened after Disneyland premiered in 1955. People no longer needed to travel to Disneyland in California to experience the Disney Adventure. This meant cheaper transportation costs, as it made driving to a Disney resort within a day a possibility for many Americans. Tourism to Florida probably increased, even though the state itself was already known for its tourist attractions, especially the beaches. Whole vacations were planned around this one place. Children of all ages were able to experience the Disney magic, and parents were able to give their children the best present of all: happy memories of family (well mostly happy; I'm sure there have been a couple memories that were not so fond of Disney World). Personally, I probably would never have experienced Disney, if there wasn't a location closer to my family than Disneyland.
