Assignment 9: War--Angela Maske

I have always struggled with the idea of war. As a child, I remember watching news stories about the war in Afghanistan and wondering aloud, "why can't they just have a thumb war?" At this point in my life, I think I have gained more of an understanding of the subtleties and implications of war, but I still don't think I have fully grasped them. To me, the idea of people killing each other in mass scales in order to get what they want seems on one side childish and on the other barbaric. And yet, in the 21st century, it continues, and there is very little serious thought put into stopping it. Tragically, it seems that war is the only way the entities of today's world can resolve hard hitting disputes, and as infuriating and upsetting that is, it will likely be the same for quite a long time.
