Assignment 5: Sofi Tzouanakis

Considering the countless problems facing the world today, I do not think I am the only one who finds the "problem" of watching too much television trivial. But it is the prompt, and I am subject to these first-world problems because I am an inhabitant of a first-world country. So I guess I should be grateful I can even have the opportunity to watch too much television. On that subject, how much is "too much television"? I mean, if you contribute to society with your job, and the money you make from that job you wish to spend on one zillion channel dish network, why should I refute you? If you want to spend that time away from your job watching My Redneck Vacation or Masterpiece Classic, who am I to say you can't? I could say you should be spending it feeding the homeless or going for a run, but by saying that I would be a total hypocrite, because I don't go and feed the homeless and run a 1K on the daily. And I think television has great entertainment value! I actually think it's amazing how television has so many choices. And sure, television has advertising, but what doesn't nowadays? Advertising bleeds into the definition of television nowadays. People will watch television just to see some great commercials (i.e. Super Bowl). Honestly, these are my only thoughts on the topic. I wish they were more provocative or thought-provoking, but if I had an intense opinion on everything, I'm pretty sure I would not be able to be a functioning part of society.
