This is a photo of the Challenger space shuttle after it launched and exploded 73 seconds into the launch. This event was receiving high public interest due to the fact that Christa McAuliffe, a teacher and passenger on this shuttle, would be the first teacher in space. Sadly, the shuttle did not make it to space before it experienced devastating malfunctions.
