Nelson Mandela

This photograph shows Nelson Mandela in 1990 after being freed from prison. He was imprisoned for 27 years for his work towards ending apartheid in South Africa. He was charged with sabotage as well as other offenses. When he was finally released, he was surrounded by many of his ecstatic supporters. This shot depicts not only Mandela's victory in his release, but also a sort of victory for the end of apartheid. After his release, Mandela continued his work and made strides to abolish apartheid.
