The anti-social effect of social-technology Ryan Collins
Love it or hate it, technology has embedded
itself into the lives of almost everyone. It has globalized and connected the
world in ways that would have been thought impossible 50 years ago. One of the
greatest advances in technology today is of course the way I am sharing this
blog post; the Internet. Though the Internet facilitates research and is makes
communicating a lot easier, it does have its consequences. Now a day’s people
will sit at home, and surf the web instead of going out and spending time with
friends, playing sports, or anything kind of activity. My sister is a prime
example of this. Last summer I was the designated “baby-sitter” and was
required to watch her and drive her where she needed to go. To my disbelief,
instead of me driving her to the mall and movies regularly, I maybe drove her
there once. This is because most of her days were spent browsing Youtube, updating her Twitter bio, or picking an Instagram filter for her Starbucks Frappuccino. Though
it made my summer job effortless, I feel as though she may have missed out on
the fun that summer has to offer. All in all technology has its perks, but if
its all you know then you might be missing out.
