World in Pictures: Joseph Grigsby

A picture that shocked a nation, and the world. A picture of Neil Armstrong placing the American flag on lunar soil. The nation is rejoicing, the world is shocked. One country, a melting pot of people united by freedom and liberty, has placed its symbol farther than any other has done, on an entirely alien place. In the grip of the Space Race, with technology less advanced than a flip phone, has put a human on the Moon. The Russians, the rest of the world, knows that they have lost. Although the Russians have put a man in space, they have not touched the moon, and they are awe-struck.
This is not only a victory for the free people of America, but for the entire human race. If other beings are watching, they now know that we have potential to leave our comfy world and venture onto cold and silent soils, and then into the deep void.
