Right before this picture was taken, a shot was fired from an old bookstore, entering the head of the President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The aftereffects of the assassination rocked the US, involving the Soviet Union taking a momentary lead in the Space Race, the escalation of the Vietnam War, and the increased presence of the Secret Service at presidential functions.
